DAAD-funded digital teaching project "Leipzig - Chance for Science" Kicks Off for Ukrainian Undergraduate and Graduate students

In September 2022, the new winter semester begins for students of Donetsk National Technical University, Sumy State University and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (all eastern Ukrainian universities). To enable Ukrainian students to further their studies, in July, 2022, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) granted funding to the Institute of Business and Economics Education of Leipzig University to offer online digital courses for Ukrainian undergraduate and graduate students of multiple disciplines. In coordination with the cooperating universities and Ukrainian lecturers, courses on “Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods” were prepared. Two courses of 1.5 semester hours each, are offered for each university. The course materials are provided on dedicated Moodle courses. In total, about 110 students are benefiting from this offer. Most of them are still in or near their university town.

To ensure that language is not a barrier, the content is prepared in both English and Ukrainian. Students also learn both the theoretical basics of research and analysis methods, as well as their practical application using software programs. At the same time, students use this knowledge to investigate their own scientific questions, and to present their research process in scientific reports. With “Leipzig – Chance for Science” teaching project, the Institute for Business and Economics Education continues its efforts to increase international visibility and network with international researchers. At the same time, research data are being generated from the teaching project, which serve to evaluate the project and expand upon previous research projects.
